Project Title
Morphing Winglet Utilizing Real Time State Sense Sensing to Actively Reduce Effects of Induced Drag
Research Expertise & Interests

His areas of interest is within machine learning enabled control algorithms and bio-inspired robotic systems. Currently I am focusing on developing a morphing UAV winglet with design inspired by muscular structure in gliding birds featuring an embedded sensor network to detect real time flight conditions and inform the morphing design.

Bio

Colby August is a master’s student at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He enjoys working on cross-disciplinary systems in the fields of electrical and mechanical engineering on robotics projects. Here, he is affiliated with the Intelligent Structural Systems Lab (ISSL) where he is working on the development of a smart wing structure which can detect real time loading conditions to inform control decisions.
