At the International Workshop on Structural Health Monitoring (IWSHM) 2025, Peiyuan Zhou and co-authors Jinhan Ren, James Schure, Shinan Huang, Sazedur Rahman, as well as Professors S. Mishra, J. Samuel, S. Akin and F. Kopsaftopoulos. received the Best Student PaperAward for their paper titled “Embedded Piezoelectric Sensing for Metallic Components: A Novel SHM Architecture for Self-Aware Structures”. The work presented novel results on a hybrid manufacturing framework that embeds subsurface piezoelectric sensors into Al-5356 metallic components using WAAM, machining, and cold spray, enabling self-sensing structures with real-time guided-wave and impedance-based diagnostics under mechanical and thermal loading.

Congratulations to the team for this outstanding recognition!
